Environmental Principles

img_environmentalprinciplesEnvironmental Policy:

Our Environmental Principles

We strongly believe in ‘Honesty Being the Best Policy’ and continuously strive to ensure that our business activities will always contribute to both the well-being, desires and confidence of our current stakeholders, by continuously striving to improve our position as a company and in so-doing striving to ensure the preservation of our planet for future generations, wherever possible and wherever we can and in the best possible way.

Some of our activities that involve bringing our fabulous products to the various market segments within Southern Africa- and throughout the global community- requires a direct impact on the environment, for example; the fuel consumption that is used to deliver our products to the consumers, and the waste that is generated from our internal office activities. However- we are able to influence the life cycle of all MG products within the various ranges from the product ingredients to the disposal of the waste material derived from each individual product’s packaging at the end of the products use.

Our Commitments:
  • To communicate our principles and policies to our customers and suppliers.
  • MG Labs and Maria Garcia International will strive to focus on those specific environmental issues that are most significant to all stakeholders such as the environmental impacts of our direct supply-chain- including the issues presenting themselves on a larger scale such as environmental warming and climate change.
  • By continuously striving to minimise waste and resource through minimal packaging and the use of recycled materials where possible.
  • Listening to our stakeholders and where possible, addressing their concerns.

MG Labs & Maria Garcia International will ensure continuous improvement by:
  • Raising awareness amongst our employees.
  • Listening to our stakeholders.
  • Setting global standards for all company owned operations.
  • Requiring all our business partners to adhere to relevant legislation and internationally agreed conventions as a minimum.
  • Continuous monitoring of our environmental performance.

An example of our environmental principle that we have put in action: We support sustainable wood through sourcing certified wood products and working with suppliers to fund sustainable wood sources.

Chemicals:

MG Labs & Maria Garcia International is strongly commited to creating products that are not only innovative and desirable, but are also sustainable and safe. Our products are based on ingredients by natural sources wherever possible, but will contain synthetic chemicals where they are necessary for the quality, safety and or efficacy of our products throughout all our ranges.

We will manage the use of chemicals in a responsible manner by:
  • The implementation of action plans for both the realistic and the timely phase-out of relevant chemicals from our formulations.
  • By conducting regular reviews of our use of chemicals against published lists of hazardous and dangerous substances.
  • By striving to conduct open and transparent communication with our customers.

Waste and Packaging:

Consumer Packaging

On a daily basis, the company strives- to be not only a good, but also an excellent corporate citizen in our country and throughout the global community. It is standard policy for us to promote, advise, suggest and motivate to our clients to support minimal use of packaging and to re-use and re-cycle our packaging.

The majority of the company’s packaging is in plastic bottles, tubes and tub-containers. We have made a goal that by 2010 all our plastic will be PET rather than the current PVC plastic being used. This is because, from January 2003 all PET (clear plastic) bottles incorporate 30% recycled plastic. However, should our clients require packaging in PET plastic, a slight price increase will need to be taken into account – however it is possible, and the order can be completed within the same standard company lead times.

MG Headquarters - Internal Offices:

MG International creates waste in the form of paper and stationery from our internal office activities- including external packaging and food materials brought onto our premises by our staff. We have disposal systems within our offices to separate the recycable materials from the non-recycable materials and we have all our waiste paper, collected from our internal operations – donated on a weekly basis to a recycling plant.
